Jonathan Potter https://www.bcu.ac.uk/english/staff/jonathan-potter is a senior lecturer at Birmingham City University where he researchers nineteenth-century periodicals, visual culture, and media technologies. His first book, Discourses of Vision in Nineteenth-Century Britain: Seeing, Thinking, Writing (2018) explored how discursive practices in Victorian periodicals and books worked to facilitate, inform and shape the way people conceptualised and articulated visual experience. He is currently on an AHRC fellowship working on a new book, Thinking Machines, that investigates the ways in which the newly industrialised print culture of the nineteenth century organised, constructed, and shaped knowledges.
