Darryl Lim is a graphic designer and typographer and a doctoral candidate at the Department of Typography & Graphic Communication, University of Reading. His research investigates the histories, art, and production of the lithographed book in maritime Southeast Asia, and examines book production, printing, and writing technologies. My thesis, titled ‘Networks, artefacts, and technology: nineteenth-century Muslim lithographic printers, missionaries, and colonialism in the Malay archipelago’ focuses on the global and transregional networks of printing, and seeks to unpick the multiple narratives that link Southeast Asian histories of the book, lithographic printing, and printing technologies.
