About CPHC

The Centre for Printing History and Culture exists to stimulate, support, publicise and disseminate knowledge of printing history and culture. CPHC is concerned with the history of printing, including the machinery and equipment, the industry and its personnel, printing processes, and the design of printed products such as books, newspapers, journals, and ephemera. It is also interested in the impact that print has in the wider world, and therefore also covers the social, cultural, industrial and economic aspect of print culture.

The Centre Aims to

  • To provide a local, regional, national and international means of exchanging information, skills and expertise in printing history and culture

  • To engage in and support ground-breaking interdisciplinary research into printing history and culture

  • To seek partnerships between universities, heritage organisations, independent scholars, businesses and practitioners to sponsor and encourage the investigation and understanding of printing history and culture

  • To promote the transfer and exchange of knowledge of printing history and culture amongst individuals and within communities and institutions
