Book 2.0 vol 14 issue 2

Published by Intellect Books, Book 2.0 is an interdisciplinary peer-reviewed journal that publishes articles and reviews about historical, modern and contemporary book creation, design, illustration and production by leading practitioners, scholars and theorists. Since its founding in 2010, Book 2.0 has explored topics that have included children’s literature and culture, traditional and modern storytelling, oral literature, poetry publishing and the enormous efforts being made by Indigenous speakers and their supporters to secure and sustain endangered languages.

Book 2.0 also looks forward to providing a forum for promoting and sharing the most innovative and imaginative practices in the teaching of writing, illustration, book design and production.

Our next issue will focus on combinations of words and sound of all kinds: works from the past and the present which bring together, or blend into new and innovative forms, sounds and texts; musical works inspired by poems, novels or even single words and phrases; performances; poems, narrative fictions and other texts inspired by sounds and music, or vice versa.

Contributions might include articles, interviews, reviews, creative work with commentaries and examples of works in progress. Topics for articles might include (but are not limited to):

  • Traditional, modern and contemporary opera

  • Experimental and avant garde music theatre

  • Popular song and mainstream musical theatre

  • Art song - traditional and contemporary

  • Performances combining sound and text

  • Film and video art combining sound and words

  • Performances involving multiple languages

  • Traditions of Indigenous song and support for modern Indigenous composers, writers and performers

  • Contributors’ own creative work - especially examples and commentaries on work in progress

  • Reviews of new collaborations, re-publications of significant past pieces

  • In all sectors of education, works combining words and sounds currently being created and or used in teaching.

Contributions are invited from scholars, practitioners – authors, poets, artists, composers, songwriters – and others, and we would be particularly interested to receive contributions from early career researchers and creative practitioners who are at the start of their careers.
