Letterform Archive – an San Francisco-based nonprofit organisation devoted to preserving and sharing the history of the graphic arts – is thrilled to share the news that its third book, Only on Saturday: The Wood Type Prints of Jack Stauffacher, will be launching on Kickstarter this Tuesday, 15 October 2019.
The book examines renowned Bay Area printer and designer Jack Stauffacher’s pathbreaking artistic work, which began when he rescued a box of old and mismatched wooden letters in 1966 that he printed with ‘only on Saturday.’ Featuring prints collected by SFMOMA and LACMA, as well as hundreds of rarely seen prints and process materials, it’s a stunning tribute to Stauffacher’s artistry and an eye-opening exploration of the visual potential of letterpress printing and type.
