Research Interests

Roger is the Society Treasurer. Being a chartered accountant by profession, the relationship between a career in business management and academic study of the 18th century is probably a little tenuous. That both of those subjects involved a significant degree of industrial activity is a somewhat contrived connection in my case. Nevertheless, his abiding interest in local history has been formalised in recent years, culminating in the conclusion of a PhD in 2015.

Much of his focus has been upon the history of the West Midlands and it was in this context that the industrialist John Baskerville appeared in his consciousness. He was brought into sharper focus by Caroline Archer and Malcolm Dick in a symposium at the University of Birmingham’s Cadbury Library. The rest as they say is ...
